Leave your phone at home.
Stay connected anyway.
Everything you need to know about adding a cellular plan to your Apple Watch in the UK, including which networks support it and what it costs.
Apple Watch cellular uses an eSIM, not a physical SIM card. Budget MVNOs like giffgaff and Lebara do not currently support Apple Watch cellular. You need a plan from one of the major networks: EE, O2, Vodafone, or Three. This page explains your options and what each network charges.

Looking for a great value SIM for your iPhone too?
While budget MVNOs cannot support Apple Watch cellular, they offer significantly cheaper plans for your iPhone than the major networks. If you are paying full price with EE, O2, or Vodafone for your phone plan, switching your iPhone SIM to a budget provider and adding the Watch cellular as an add-on could save you money overall.
How Apple Watch cellular works
Cellular Apple Watch models have an eSIM built into the watch itself. There is no slot for a physical SIM card. You activate it through the Watch app on your iPhone by adding a plan from your network. Once active, the watch gets its own cellular connection and can operate independently of your iPhone within the UK.
The watch shares your existing phone number. When someone calls your number, both your iPhone and your Apple Watch ring. You can answer from either. The same applies to iMessages and regular SMS messages. From the caller's perspective nothing changes, they still dial the same number.
Is it worth paying for Apple Watch cellular?
At £5 per month it is a modest cost for genuine independence from your phone. If you run, cycle, or go to the gym and want to leave your phone behind while staying reachable, cellular is worth it. If your watch is mostly used at home or in places where your phone is always nearby, the WiFi-only model does the same job at a lower upfront price with no monthly add-on.
One thing worth checking before you sign up is whether your current network supports it. If you are on a budget MVNO like giffgaff or Lebara and want Apple Watch cellular, you would need to switch your phone SIM to one of the four major networks first. That may or may not be worth doing depending on what you pay now. Our SIM only comparison can help you see whether the switch makes financial sense.
