Everything you need to know about adding a cellular plan to your Apple Watch in the UK, including which networks support it and what it costs.
Apple Watch cellular uses an eSIM, not a physical SIM card. Budget MVNOs like giffgaff and Lebara do not currently support Apple Watch cellular. You need a plan from one of the major networks: EE, O2, Vodafone, or Three. This page explains your options and what each network charges.
Apple Watch cellular plans by network
O2
NumberShare add-on for existing O2 customers. Watch shares your O2 number directly.
Vodafone
OneNumber add-on for existing Vodafone customers. Works on Apple Watch Series 4 and newer.
EE and Three also support Apple Watch cellular with add-ons at around £7 per month for existing customers on qualifying plans; check their sites for current availability and pricing.
Prices checked August 2026 and may change. Always confirm current pricing and plan compatibility on the network's website before signing up. Each network requires you to already be a customer on a qualifying plan before you can add Apple Watch cellular.
SIM plans that work with Apple Watch
Apple Watch cellular needs your iPhone's SIM to be with EE, O2, Vodafone, or Three. Of the four, these are the SIM only plans we track. Get the plan, then switch the watch feature on from the Watch app.

Looking for a great value SIM for your iPhone too?
One honest trade-off to understand: the watch add-on has to be with the same network as your iPhone plan, so a budget MVNO SIM and Apple Watch cellular cannot be combined. If watch cellular matters to you, stick with a direct plan like the two above. If you can live with your watch on WiFi and Bluetooth, budget MVNOs offer significantly cheaper plans for your iPhone than the major networks, and the savings usually outweigh the add-on's convenience.

How Apple Watch cellular works
Cellular Apple Watch models have an eSIM built into the watch itself. There is no slot for a physical SIM card. You activate it through the Watch app on your iPhone by adding a plan from your network. Once active, the watch gets its own cellular connection and can operate independently of your iPhone within the UK.
The watch shares your existing phone number. When someone calls your number, both your iPhone and your Apple Watch ring. You can answer from either. The same applies to iMessages and regular SMS messages. From the caller's perspective nothing changes.
Is it worth paying for Apple Watch cellular?
At around £7 per month it is a modest cost for genuine independence from your phone. If you run, cycle, or go to the gym and want to leave your phone behind while staying reachable, cellular is worth it. If your watch is mostly used at home or in places where your phone is always nearby, the WiFi-only model does the same job at a lower upfront price with no monthly add-on.
One thing worth checking before you sign up is whether your current network supports it. If you are on a budget MVNO like giffgaff or Lebara and want Apple Watch cellular, you would need to switch your phone SIM to one of the four major networks first. Our SIM only comparison can help you see whether the switch makes financial sense.
